Before and After

The chickens have grown heaps over this experiment. There has been some bumps in the road but all in all they have done great! Here are some pictures that show how much more bigger they are now compared to when they were in the $5 tent.

Dane has put on 461 grams through the last 3 weeks!

Quade has put on the most of the three, putting on 638 grams!

Kurltey has put on the second most weight, putting on 400 grams!

Dane Layed a Double Yoker

We kept the egg that Dane layed o we could have it with some bacon over the weekend. Once we had cracked the egg we found out that the egg he layed was a double yoker!

The Smaller, The More Mature

I was hit yesturday with a great surprise. Dane has layed a egg! I need some opinions though. We weighed all the chickens last night and Dane lost 2 grams. I dont know if i should worrie because in the last weighing he lost 30 grams, and I have said that if there is a steep decline in one of the chickens weights that i will have to call of the experiment, because it wouldnt be fair on the chickens. I want to know what you guys think, is this a big enough weight loss in a space of 5 days or do you just think its because it layed the egg?

Henhouse Hilton is almost done!

Over the last 5 days, me and my uncle have been working on a place for the chickens to stay after the experiment. We chose to use our old cubby house that we used to use when me and my brother were little. We have decided to call it the Henhouse Hilton.

I was looking for information about what hormones are put into chickens and i found this website about whether hormones in chickens are a myth or if they are real. I know it was publicated in 2006 but I think it would still be the same.

Slight Bump in the Road

I (Dad) have made a mistake when purchasing the chickens. We did not buy three of the same breeed, which may bias the results. All other conditions are as followed.

In the event that a clear weight gain pattern appears we will change the diet of the chickens to see if the food type changes the weight gain between the different breeds of chickens.

Wrong Way to Weigh

From the start of this experiment, I have accidently weighed the chickens in pounds instead of grams. I am sorry for any confusion.

Eating Different Food?

Today is the first day of the chickens eating the seperate food. This has been delayed a little while becuse of the rain that has been falling the last week. Three more coops have been delivered and we have tweeked them so that they are water proof. Quade is eating the chicken pellets, Kurtey is eating food scraps and Dane is eating the cracked corn. Quade is now weighing 3170 grams, which means hes put on 1015 grams. Kurtley is 3370 grams, which means hes put on 369 grams. Lastly Dane is 2135 grams, which means hes put on 142 grams. Day 4

Have moved the chickens into a smaller coop. Still havent split them up yet but I will get it done in the next few days. I cant upload any pictures of the latest weighing but will try to get them up ASAP. They've all grown heaps since the first weigh. Kurtley is now 3001 grams, that meens he's put on 1679 grams. Quade is 2155, he's put on 777 grams. Dane is 2155, putting on 1039 grams since the first weigh.

Introduction to Quade, Kurtley and Dane!

Got the chickens today. All different colours so it will be easier to know which is which. Quade is the red one, Kurtley the black, and Dane is the white. At the moment they have to be fed the same thing, but in the next couple of days the coup should be here so we can seperate them. They are being fed Chicken Seed and Cracked Corn. Kurtley is 1322 grams, Quade is 1378 grams and Dane is 1116 grams. The way I weigh the chickens is putting them in a beer box and way them, then taking away the weight of the box.
